1. The interview

Regularly maintain your interior, cellar, exterior surroundings, attic, food storage area. Regular cleaning of these areas prevents creating a living space conducive to rodents and multiple hiding places.

2. Entry points

Seal holes and cracks. It is important not to let your walls fall apart. Rats can get in there. Rats can jump, so don’t forget to seal them up to 1m high.

3. Dispose of your trash properly

Never touch a dead rodent with your bare hands. These pests carry many viruses, diseases and parasites.

5. Don’t attract them

Rats are attracted to food, so make sure you don’t have any leftover food or opened and unopened cans in your home. Place anything that’s opened in an airtight container.

Do the same with pet food and seeds you give to birds in winter.

6. Insulation

A well-insulated building, a rat invasion avoided.

Make sure your insulation is done properly, otherwise rodents will have an easier time getting in. If you notice any holes or pipes that connect the inside to the outside, seal them completely or install a grill that is thick and strong enough to prevent them from getting in. Be wary of cables drilled into the walls behind outdoor air conditioning units.

Rodents can enter your home through the roof. It is therefore important to regularly check that it is airtight and that no tiles are missing or damaged. Repair broken tiles and install mesh to seal the gaps. Do the same with grilles and air vents.

Rats can swim and submerge. They are able to use your toilet to enter your home. So always leave your toilet seat closed.

7. Control

Check the sewers to ensure there are no openings, sags or poor connections to other pipes.

8. Maintain your garden

Keep your lawn and plants short. Also remove vegetation that is too close to your house, which could provide easy access for rodents. Prune trees that are close to walls, cut branches that go over the roof and be wary of climbing plants such as vines or ivy on the facade.

9. Set traps

There are many products and traps available on the market to prevent and/or treat a rodent invasion. If you can, bait with formidable products: peanut butter, spread, viandox, etc.
